One of my all time favorite design tricks for interiors is the deft use of mirrors. Unfortunately, the proposal of mirror attached to wall quickly conjures up the poor treatment displayed proudly in the 1970's. Mirrored walls have a rich and powerful provenance -from overly elaborate mirrored halls of Versailles, to the gracefully chic faceted mirror staircase in the Chanel Atelier, to the sophisticated mirrored bathroom of Miles Redd. Give mirror a chance.

For those of us who aren't fortunate enough to live in Versailles, Chanel's atelier, or Redd's bathroom there is a simpler option -mirrored screens:

The Steampunk Home

An uneventful Sunday night, a few glasses of wine, and watching back to back episodes of Sex and the City led me to a random google search of "Industrial Revolution", where I stumbled upon a fantastic blog; The Steampunk Home. The modern victorian vibe has long been apparent in both interior and fashion design, The Steampunk Home is so good to remind us.

I'd probably be more productive if I were using this computer... and drinking less wine while trying to post.

Santa baby

Maybe it's a little early in the game, but I thought it best to start compiling my wish list for Santa. I'm not sure how the current economical condition has affected Santa's operation; I would imagine that he has been forced to let go of some of the elves, maybe even a reindeer or two. So, it's with much empathy that I have been modest in my wants. Just a few simple things.

It's beginning to look a lot like Autumn, everywhere you go.

We may still be a couple of weeks away from the official start of Autumn, but her return is evident. There is a sharpness to the wind that is welcome and refreshing. I've noticed more foliage reminiscent of Autumn leaves, and flowers that have started to retreat for the season. In all honesty I'm generally a pretty grumpy person during the Summer -an embarrassing characteristic that seems to have been magnified with my move to the District. I'm most excited, optimistic, and thoughtful in the Fall and Winter, and am very much looking forward to the change of seasons to come!
