The greatest trip I've never taken.

I'm terribly bored, and yearning for a trip. As I write this I'm held up in my small studio surrounded by an extremely lazy cat, Ella, and an equally lethargic dog, Louie. The District has been struck, yet again, by a monstrous snow storm which has rendered her completely unable to host any events, such as work, but has encouraged a noticeably lackadaisical shift in her residents. The novelty of idle weekdays filled with late brunch dates that bled into early cocktails has faded. Not that it hasn't been grand and almost overwhelmingly hedonistic, but one does eventually tire of the "easy life". Plus, with the lack of work, which equates to lack of pay, my shiftless animals and I are about to become homeless!

While sifting through the internet on one such slothful afternoon I came across the Hotel Particulier. Discretely located at the end of a small alley in Montmartre, 23 Avenue Junot, Hotel Particulier is exactly what I, Ella, and Louie need. It's a shame that I have no money for the trip. For now I will simply have to be satisfied with looking at the pictures and sipping some cheap champagne while one of my Edith Piaf records plays in the background.

  8. Thank you so much for your most charming comment in my blog. Your trip sounds amazing. I love the fact that you are sympathetic towards French sensibilities. I adore their taste, love for beauty and even the way they laid their table in the garden. Have you ever seen any film by Jacques Rivette (the french version of Wuthering Heights and Celine and Julie go boating, La Belle Noiseuse in particular). I love the houses he chose in his film. They are very french in terms of their decor and very bourgeois at the same time. It's right up your street.

  9. Semigloss Chic (Abby) -I know how you feel! I generally LOVE winter, but I'm over this weather!

A.S.D. -My pleasure. I've never seen any Jacques Rivette films, but will be sure to watch a few with your suggestion.

  10. Scott, Looking at these pictures of this beautiful place, I have the same reaction that I do whenever I watch a great French film: I shake my head and mutter to myself, "The effing French!" but not in envy (well, maybe a litte) but because they're so consistently GOOD...and just so damned...French. How can you not love them? Thanks again for another trip to a beautiful place I have yet to go.
p.s. I will send a little note to the Universe to open its floodgates to you (complete with some plane tickets to France).
    Always a pleasure,
    Frank @ abodewell

  12. I don't have outfits that go with 70 degrees... If I can't wear a minimum of 4 layers, I wouldn't know what to do.
