And, here are a few great examples of chalkboard paint used in interiors.

"When Elsie de Wolfe invented the vocation of interior decorator in 1905, she informed her friends and potential clients of the fact by sending out cards engraved with her name and address, and a discreet announcement of her service". This is not 1905, consider this my calling card.
My mom found a fabulous old school chalkboard which she hung in the kitchen. It looks so fabulous...she writes down dinner menus, cooking times, grocery lists...and then my dad leaves little love notes on it for her...
ReplyDeleteHello-
ReplyDeleteThe armoire/cabinet is so beautifully done.
Move over Cy Twombly!
You are starting a trend. cheers, www.thestylesaloniste.com
These are great, Scott. Good roundup. I have been longing to do some sort of chalkboard wall or piece in my house, but have been afraid that I would be the last one jumping on a train that had already left the station. But, chalkboard in a bedroom...I love it. Of course, all my love notes would be to myself, but that's ok!
ReplyDeleteGreat look, especially for a man's apartment. I'll have to see the movie.
ReplyDeleteJanet- that vintage chalkboard sounds adorable, but what's even more adorable is the way that your parents use it! -too sweet!
ReplyDeleteD.D.S.- Perfect Twombly reference! I think it's a fantastic cabinet, and would love to see more pieces like that; a simple rectangular cocktail table that could be drawn on- maybe the outline of a classically shaped table.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha, Abby I'm afraid I'm in the same boat! If only our puppies could leave us love notes!
ReplyDeleteBeth- You've gotta watch it! It's a sweet well written story, beautiful wardrobe, stunning sets, and inspiring soundtrack, and adorable actors. I know you'll love it!
I love the dining room, especially. Very inspiring post. It has me thinking...and that usually ends up being expensive! xx
ReplyDeleteLisa- You sound like a modern Lucy Ricardo! : )
ReplyDeleteI painted a chalkboard niche for my toddler son over thirty years ago. I remember the paint salesman being very baffled by my order. The rest of the room was red. He told me had never sold a gallon of red paint before and had been in the paint business all his life. And that he had never sold chalkboard paint for someone to use in their home. Today's interest in chalkboard makes me feel both very young and very old!
ReplyDeletethe wardrobe and the light simply rock...
ReplyDeletehome before dark- seems as though once a trailblazer always a trailblazer! ; )
ReplyDeletecustardbydesign- Aren't they great?! And, the moment that you inevitably tire of them you can quickly change the look!
ReplyDeleteTo give credit where credit is due, the chalkboard shown in the second photo (the dining room) is actually a large abstract work by artist Dan Christmas. It does look particularly Twombly-ish, though, doesn't it? Very fun!
ReplyDeletei have been trying to find a better photo of the chalkboard headboard too! that is actually how i found your blog. it's proven much more difficult than i thought!
